What is Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM)

CCM is a rich, profound, and complete medical system that draws upon the philosophies of Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. It has evolved from the teachings of the ancient Daoist medical texts of ancient China.

What is the difference between CCM & other healthcare systems?

The CCM approach to health enables both the patient and physician to explore health issues as part of a whole process. This involves their thoughts, feelings, actions and experiences. It guides the patient through the process of evolving from a limited, sick being, into a healthy, and happy being.

The scope and dimension of CCM extends far beyond that of modern medical thinking as well as the modern Chinese healthcare system known as Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

TCM began in the 1950’s during the Cultural Revolution in China. Though it takes it's roots from CCM, it is very much limited by the treatment of patterns of illness and not on how people can evolve beyond the limitations of being sick to being truly well. Since the 1970s the TCM model has formed the basis of educational institutions in Europe and America.

A distinguishing feature of CCM, in contrast to modern Western medicine and TCM, is that it treats the person experiencing the illness not just the pattern or the health problem.
