We know how to heal and what we're healing from, yet why should we heal at all? It's like why does the earth rotate around the sun? Why is there even an atmosphere separating us from the vastness of infinite space? Why? I don't think these why's that every child asks are ever answered. I mean we answer what something is or how it functions, yet never truly answer why things are the way they appear to be... So having been in the practice of the medical and healing profession for a little while now, I've accumulated much knowledge of how things heal and what it is that heals. However I've not ever pondered why - the actual purpose or reason we should heal at all. Generally we seek to heal from various ailments in body and mind. This indicates that we all possess an innate ability to heal. However not all of us heal that well. So what and why do we heal? What is the extent of healing? Many years ago I came across a quote from a Japanese novelist, Haruki Murakami “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. This beautifully encapsulates things our experiences in life. There are things we can't avoid yet we always have a choice whether we experience suffering or not. Isn't this so hopeful? So let's orientate ourselves to the meaning of words...
