Miss Tomoko Ando

I am originally from Japan where I trained in Dance/Classic Ballet since the age of seven. I moved to UK in 1996. As I explored dance and Ballet, I grew more interested in the therapeutic application of movements, especially after experiencing injuries and ill health.

Thus began my journey to discover a way to help others to regain their health and vitality.

I discovered Gyrotonic in 2002 through my dance teacher. I was fascinated at the very first experience with how the system encouraged my body to open while releasing emotional stagnation and balancing the mind. I went on to train in the system and participated in various workshops and training courses in Germany, Austria and London with Juliu Horvath, the inventor of Gyrotonic himself, and many other master trainers. I soon began to teach gyrotonic.

I joined Medical Alternatives in 2004 to teach gyrotonic. Soon after working at Medical Alternatives I gained further insights into how to heal the body and developed a deep wish to integrate my knowledge of the body in movement and health.

It was a natural and inevitable step for me to explore the field of Oriental medicine so I undertook formal training at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. I have completed a BSc (honours) degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and am licensed to practice acupuncture.

I work in resonance with the philosophy of Medical Alternatives and share Dr Tran's passion of Classical Chinese Medicine and Oriental healing wisdom.
